AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - Two people from Washington State are jailed in the Texas Panhandle after police found more than $300,000 in methamphetamine inside a false compartment of the engine of their 1999 Mercedes.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says troopers made the discovery after pulling over the vehicle Wednesday for a traffic violation on Interstate 40 in Carson County near Conway, about 25 miles east of Amarillo.

The pair from Roy, Washington - 54-year-old J Santos Mora-Osequera and 46-year-old Rosalba Campos-Alonso - are jailed in Carson County and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

It could not be determined Thursday if either of the two has an attorney.

Authorities say the drugs were being taken from California to Union, Tennessee.
