DAVIS, W.Va. (AP) - They’re putting away the golf clubs and priming the snow machines at Canaan Valley Resort.

The topsy-turvy weather had meant an extended season at the resort’s 18-hole course, but the links were retired for the season Wednesday. Now, with seasonal temperatures returning, the resort will re-open its ski area next week.

General manager Steve Drumheller says seven slopes and trails and a beginner’s slope are expected to open up on Jan. 6. Besides the slopes, the ice skating rink will also open on Jan. 7.

The Tucker County resort was firing up its snow guns on Thursday, with the real stuff expected to fall on New Year’s Day.

Canaan Valley Resort ski area typically has an average annual snowfall of more than 180 inches.
