LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas State Highway Commission has approved $20.3 million in funding for projects in three programs.

The commission said Friday that the funding includes $15.9 million for the Transportation Alternatives Program; $3.1 million for the Recreational Trails Program; and $1.2 million for the Safe Routes to School Program.

The Transportation Alternatives Program is for building sidewalks and trails for pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized forms of transportation. The Recreational Trails Program provides funding for construction or maintenance of recreational trails statewide. The Safe Routes to School Program is used to allow and encourage children to safely walk or bicycle to school and can include construction to improve the safety of pedestrians in the vicinity of schools.
