SHANDAKEN, N.Y. (AP) - The state-run Belleayre Mountain Ski Center in the Catskills is opening for the season.

Despite warm weather, operators say they have been able to make enough snow to open intermediate and expert terrain Friday. The beginning area will not be open.

Belleayre will stay open though the weekend and is projected to reopen Thursday, Dec. 10.

Operators say snow conditions will be reevaluated as needed after then and that snowmaking will resume as conditions permit.

The ski center is operated by the state’s Olympic Regional Development Authority.
