CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Three members of the Cranston Police Department have received medals for saving a family from a burning home.

WPRI-TV reports (https://bit.ly/21BGtFU ) that Detective Paula Duffy, Officer Inspector Thomas Okolowitcz and Patrolman Stephen Lang each received a Life Saving Medal Thursday night at Cranston High School East.

Duffy says she has kept in touch with the family since the June blaze and says they’ve become friends. She also helped collect donations from the community.

This was the first recognition for Lang, who has been on the force for nearly three decades.

Six members in all were honored for acting heroically in the line of duty, saving eight lives. Ten members of the department were also recognized for their recent promotions.
