PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) - Gov. Maggie Hassan will address a gathering of nonprofit organizations that provide mental and behavioral health services and discuss the role they play in fighting the heroin and opioid crisis.

The New Hampshire Behavioral Health Summit in Portsmouth on Friday is an annual event that brings together substance abuse and mental health service providers.

More than 300 people have died from heroin or opioid overdoses this year in New Hampshire and the state is taking steps to try to contain the problem.

A legislative task force is considering a range of actions including tightening prescription rules, creating more drug courts and funding more police officers.
