PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The former Joe’s Smoke Shop is packing up and moving to a new location in Portland, Maine.

The store now called Joe’s Super Variety has served Portland’s Longfellow Square neighborhood for 70 years. But the store that opened in 1945 will soon be demolished to make way for an apartment building.

A new Joe’s Variety will reopen on the first floor of the new building in the new year.

David Discatio, one of three brothers who run the landmark shop, tells the Portland Press Herald that the new shop will be back and will be “bigger and better.”

He says the product line may be a bit more upscale. Studio apartments are expected to fetch $1,000 a month, and a two-bedroom apartment will cost about $1,900.
