KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) - A Kenosha man has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his baby daughter and assaulting the child’s mother.

Kenosha County Judge Bruce Schroeder called the death of the 11-month-old girl the “most ghastly crime” he’s seen. Russell Rose Jr. was found guilty in October of all seven felony counts against him, including first-degree intentional homicide.

Prosecutors say Rose killed his daughter in a fit of rage by slamming her to the ground after a violent argument with the girl’s mother. Rose is accused of striking the mother, April Lampy, in the face, choking her, kicking her down some stairs and threatening her with a knife and metal stake.

During sentencing Thursday Rose said he killed his daughter to protect her from the “evils of this world.”
