DENVER (AP) - Prosecutors have charged a man accused of fatally shooting a friend in an apartment in southwest Denver.

KUSA-TV reports (https://goo.gl/v0UJIS ) 52-year-old Joel Sovine has been charged with manslaughter and tampering with evidence in the Nov. 21 death of 54-year-old Gregory Carlson.

Sovine told the television station he didn’t mean to kill Carlson when he pointed a gun at his head and pulled the trigger. He said he and Carlson have jokingly pointed unloaded guns at each other and pulled the trigger in the past.

On the night of the shooting, Sovine says, Carlson pointed the gun at him and then encouraged him to do the same. The gun, however, was loaded.

Sovine says he would never kill his best friend and thinks Carlson may have loaded the gun himself.
