PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - A satellite TV installer convicted of kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl in New Jersey is heading to prison.

A judge on Thursday sentenced 41-year-old Arcadio Nova to life in prison. Jurors in Passaic County found the New York City man guilty in July of kidnapping, aggravated sexual assault and related offenses.

Defense attorney Leigh Saltiel tells The Record newspaper (https://bit.ly/1jCx1jb ) her client maintains his innocence, but says he feels sorry for what the victim suffered “albeit not at his hands.”

Prosecutors say Nova entered the Paterson home in July 2013, tied a plastic bag around the girl’s eyes and sexually assaulted her.

Saltiel argued that the case was one of mistaken identity. She says Nova intends to appeal.
