GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) - A Williams man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for ramming a Grants Pass police car.

The Grants Pass Daily Courier reports (https://is.gd/EjqoBK ) that 34-year-old Jonathan Michael Scott was sentenced less than 30 days after the incident. He pleaded guilty to 15 charges, the most serious of which was second-degree assault.

Scott was stopped on Nov. 6 when an off-duty officer recognized him. He was wanted on a warrant at the time.

An on-duty officer pulled up behind Scott’s Ford Focus hatchback to block it with his SUV. Instead, Scott accelerated in reverse, backing into the officer’s vehicle with the side of his car. In the process he almost hit the officer, who was standing outside Scott’s window.

Scott fled and was arrested the following Monday.
