ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) - Police in Maryland say an officer was hit by a car during a traffic stop and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Montgomery County Police said in a statement Friday that 24-year-old Officer Noah Leotta was hit Thursday night. Police say Leotta was conducting the traffic stop when the driver of another car - a 2012 Honda CRV - struck his police cruiser and then him.

Police say the Honda’s driver remained on the scene and was taken into custody because he was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Police say results of a blood test are pending.
