CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - The University of Northern Iowa has named Jean Berger as its interim athletics director.

UNI President Bill Ruud announced the move Friday, filling a position left vacant when Troy Dannen opted to become athletics director at Tulane University in New Orleans. Berger’s new position begins Jan. 1.

Berger has been serving as deputy athletics director since July. She was hired as UNI’s senior associate athletic director and senior woman administrator in 2008.

Before moving the UNI, Berger worked for more than 17 years at Drake University in Des Moines.

She’s a graduate of the University of Iowa and a native of Winterset.
