MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University officials are warning students about a financial aid phone scam.

WCHS-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1HLNEVn ) that the university says students are getting calls from what appears to be the financial aid office phone number.

The school says the scammer claims to be a representative from the university, says there’s a warrant out for the student’s arrest and tries to get the student to make a payment over the phone.

The university is urging students to not give their information out on the phone and to hang up if they receive such a call.
