ALCALDE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico State Police are investigating a rollover crash that left a man dead and a woman injured in Rio Arriba County.

Police spokesman Chad Pierce said in a release Saturday that the crash happened in Alcalde.

According to Pierce, 30-year-old Jerome Martinez was driving on State Road 68 when he lost control of the vehicle for an unknown reason just before midnight.

Authorities say the vehicle overturned several times.

Neither Martinez nor his passenger, 31-year-old Jessica Marquez, was wearing a seat belt.

Pierce says Martinez, of Hernandez, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Marquez, of Velarde, was transported to a hospital for treatment but police did not disclose the nature of her injuries. Her condition was not immediately known.

Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
