GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - Foot patrols by police are back.

The Greenwood Police Department has begun conducting foot patrols throughout the downtown area, according to the Greenwood Commonwealth (https://bit.ly/1N34vlD ).

Police say officers will be patrolling on foot to cut down on crime and will be entering retailers and other downtown establishments as part of their patrol duties.

Mayor Carolyn McAdams says the foot patrols give people a feeling of safety.

Concern about crime has grown after a series of recent home invasions.

Police Chief Ray Moore said a sizable number of officers would be out on foot for the 80th annual Roy Martin Delta Band Festival and Christmas Parade this weekend.
