BUFFALO CENTER, Iowa (AP) - A 62-year-old Forest City man convicted of assaulting a girl has resigned from his kindergarten teaching position at North Iowa Schools.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1OFo9Gy ) that the school board accepted Allen James Twait’s resignation Friday.

Twait had been on paid administrative leave since being arrested for the February incident. Last month, he pleaded guilty to assault causing mental illness in Winnebago County District Court. In exchange, prosecutors dropped an original charge of lascivious acts with a child. Twait was sentenced to two years’ probation and a $315 civil penalty.

Authorities say Twait physically grabbed the victim, who was under age 14. The incident did not happen at the school.
