SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a 24-year-old man was under the influence of drugs when he crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a fatal car crash on Long Island.

The accident happened at 2:23 p.m. Friday in Southampton.

Police say Brandon McKee, of Center Moriches, was driving north when he crossed into the southbound lane. They say he sideswiped an SUV before hitting a Nissan Altima head on.

The driver of the Nissan, 26-year-old Courtney Pivirotto, of Eastport, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two people in the SUV were not injured.

McKee is in critical condition at Stony Brook Hospital. He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of drugs.

It wasn’t clear whether McKee had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
