SEATTLE (AP) - The Seattle Weekly will lay off six of its 21 employees at the end of the year.

The Seattle Times reports (https://goo.gl/jCny9K ) the job cuts at the Weekly will largely affect the editorial and production departments.

Seattle Weekly publisher Bob Baranski says the move reflects a shift from full-time staff to freelancers.

Baranski said the adjustments will not affect the tone or range of the Weekly’s coverage.

Sound Publishing company purchased the Weekly from Village Voice Media Holdings in 2013. The company owns 49 other newspapers, including the Bainbridge Island Review and The (Everett) Herald.

Baranski said he’s not aware of any other Sound Publishing papers contemplating staff reductions.
