FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - The Internal Revenue Service has filed a federal tax lien against a company owned by Republican Arkansas state Sen. Jake Files of Fort Smith, who is chairman of the Senate’s Revenue and Taxation Committee.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1NatD7Q ) that the lien was filed Nov. 10 against Foster, Files & Harris LLC of Fort Smith for more than $111,000 in unpaid payroll and unemployment taxes during the past two years. The firm provides payroll services for Files’ FFH Construction company.

Files told the newspaper that he expects to resolve the lien in the next 30 to 45 days. Files said 2014 was “a challenging year” for his construction industry business and that it was also affected by his absence during the regular session of the Legislature earlier this year.
