PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say a woman has been shot after allegedly trying to burglarize a vehicle.

Police spokesman Trent Crump says an officer patrolling the area around McDowell Road and 51st Avenue heard shots fired at about 5 a.m. Saturday.

The officer immediately responded and located a resident who informed police that he had come across a burglar.

The resident says he happened upon a woman who appeared to be burglarizing his work vehicle.

The male resident sees they got into an altercation and he fired shots at the female suspect, striking her at least once.

Crump says the suspect suffered a non-life-threatening injury.

Investigators are at the scene.
