STORRS, Conn. (AP) - Breanna Stewart scored 28 points and Morgan Tuck added 21 to help No. 1 UConn beat third-ranked Notre Dame 91-81 on Saturday night in the Jimmy V Classic.

The two teams have played for the national championship or in the Final Four in the past five seasons, including last season’s title game that Connecticut won.

The Huskies (6-0) have won 43 consecutive games.

For the second straight game, the Huskies only held a one-possession lead at the half. They led 58-54 midway through the third quarter before Tuck started a 20-2 run over the next 7 minutes. She had eight points during the spurt.

The lead grew to 78-56 early in the fourth quarter before Notre Dame scored 13 of the next 15 points to close within 11 with 4:46 left. The Irish could get no closer than nine.

Freshman Marina Mabrey scored a career-best 23 to lead Notre Dame (7-1).

NO. 5 MARYLAND 86, CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE 43

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Shatori Walker-Kimbrough scored 18 points for Maryland.

Brionna Jones added 14 points for the Terrapins (8-0), coming off a victory over No. 20 Syracuse on Wednesday night. Emma Stroyan had nine points for Central Connecticut State (1-7).

BYU 72, NO. 12 TEXAS A&M; 64

LAIE, Hawaii (AP) - Lexi Eaton Rydalch scored 28 points and BYU upset Texas A&M; to complete a sweep in the Tom Weston Classic.

The Cougars (6-3) ran their overall record at the invitational tournament to 14-1, beating BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii in addition to the Aggies. Morrison Pulsipher added 16 points for the Cougars.

Chelsea Jennings scored 17 points for Texas A&M; (6-2).

VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH 57, NO. 17 ARIZONA STATE 48

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Keira Robinson scored 14 points and Virginia Commonwealth beat a Top 25 team for the first time, upsetting cold-shooting Arizona State in the ASU Classic.

Ashley Pegram added 11 points for VCU (6-1). Quinn Dornstauder had 17 points for the Sun Devils (3-2).

SAINT MARY’S 64, NO. 18 CALIFORNIA 63

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Freshman Sydney Raggio made a 15-foot jumper with 2.7 seconds left and Saint Mary’s shocked California in the Cal Classic.

Asha Thomas missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for Cal.

Raggio finished with 15 points for the Gaels (6-2). Kristine Anigwe had a career-high 27 points and added 12 rebounds for Cal (5-2).

NO. 23 DEPAUL 89, ILLINOIS STATE 41

CHICAGO (AP) - Chanise Jenkins had 17 points and seven assists and DePaul rebounded from a home loss to No. 1 Connecticut to rout Illinois State.

Jessica January added 13 points for the Blue Demons (6-2). Octavia Crump had 14 for the Redbirds (1-6).

NO. 24 UCLA 82, CS BAKERSFIELD 68

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Jordin Canada scored 25 points to lead UCLA past Cal State Bakersfield.

Canada was 10 of 12 from the floor and had five assists. Monique Billings had a career-high 19 points and added eight rebounds for the Bruins (4-2).

Erika Williams had a career-high 24 points for Cal State Bakersfield (1-7).
