HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - A worker was killed after he fell off the roof of the former Forrest County jail, according to authorities.

The Hattiesburg American reports (https://hatne.ws/1NzuXQQ ) that the accident happened Friday.

Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem says the man was working on the rooftop of the facility when he fell off at about 2:13 p.m. Authorities did not immediately release the worker’s name pending notification of next of kin.

The building is in downtown Hattiesburg and it has been under renovation for the past few months.

The first two floors of the five-level building will house the county’s pre-trial diversion, public defender, drug court and veterans’ court services. The old jail has been empty since fall 2012.
