DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Two months after the old Riverfront YMCA was demolished, developers are still working on plans for the site in downtown Des Moines.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1HOLc0z ) Hubbell Realty Co. recently extended its contract to buy the 1.86 acres through Jan. 29, so it will have more time to work on its plan.

An earlier version of Hubbell’s plans called for a five-story apartment complex with retail space at street level. That proposal drew a lukewarm response from city officials in the spring.

Hubbell CEO Rick Tollakson says the new plan will likely include a taller building, but he wasn’t ready to disclose the details.

The eight-story YMCA building was imploded in October. It had stood along the Des Moines River since 1957.
