Akron: QB Thomas Woodson completed just 53 percent of his passes but for 2,034 yards and 16 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Utah St.: RB Devonte Mays rushed for 842 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry.


Akron: Zips won last four in a row to make a bowl game for the third time in school history. Akron has forced 25 turnovers.

Utah St.: QB Chuckie Keeton went down with a knee injury in the third game of the season, against Washington, but returned to start the last two.


First meeting


Akron: Zips are 0-2 in bowl games. They lost to Memphis 38-31 in the 2005 Motor City Bowl.

Utah St.: Utah State is 4-5 in bowl games, beating UTEP 21-6 in last year’s New Mexico Bowl.
