NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A New Orleans man was killed at a maritime training company in Kenner, and his funeral will be Saturday in New Orleans, authorities said.

Anthony Tardo, 49, of Mandeville was fatally shot in the chest Friday at Houston (HOW-stun) Marine, where he was facility manager, Kenner police Lt. Brian McGregor said in a news release.

John Spears, 50, of Marrero, is being held in lieu of $750,000 bond, after being booked with second-degree murder, he said in an email Sunday.

Spears, who had worked at Houston Marine for about a year, refused to cooperate and would not say anything about his motive, McGregor said in the news release late Friday.

He wrote that Spears allegedly shot Tardo, told a co-worker Tardo needed help, then went to his own car and waited there for police.

In his email, McGregor said he does not know whether Spears has an attorney who could comment.

Funeral director Kevin Hasson says Tardo’s funeral Mass will be at 12:15 p.m. Dec. 12 in the chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, with visitation that morning.
