TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - Gov. Asa Hutchinson has appointed Texarkana fire marshal Stephen Johnson to the Arkansas Fire Protection Services Board.

The Texarkana Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1TPauNt ) that Johnson has been with the department for 21 years and has been fire marshal for 12 years.

The state board’s duties include setting minimum standards for certifying fire departments, promoting an exchange of information among fire departments and state agencies and serving as an adviser to the director of the Department of Emergency Management.

The board also evaluates current and proposed national and international activities of fire services to maintain acceptable standards for Arkansas fire departments.

The appointment expires in 2018.
