ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) - Middle and high school student teams have until Jan. 16 to apply for the ninth annual Jr Iron Chef Vermont competition.

The culinary competition will be held March 19, 2016 at the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction.

Teams of students will compete in creating healthy and delicious dishes made from local ingredients. Organizers say the dishes will inspire the menus of school meal programs.

The winning teams receive prize packages as well as the chance to show off their recipes in the Vermont State House cafeteria.

Registration is limited to the first 75 teams to apply. Teams must consist of three to five students in 6th-8th grade, or 9th-12th grade.

The registration fee is $130 until Dec. 16 and $150 after that.

Applications are available online at www.jrironchefvt.org .
