HIGHGATE, Vt. (AP) - State police are searching for the driver of an SUV that struck and killed a 54-year-old man in Highgate and then sped off.

Authorities say David Miller, of Highgate, was walking along the shoulder of Route 78 near Rocky Maple Lane when the SUV slammed into him. His body was found Sunday morning.

Evidence at the scene suggests the SUV was a 2003 or later Chevrolet Silverado, Tahoe or Suburban, or a GMC Sierra, Yukon or Denali.

The vehicle was likely damaged on the front passenger side, including the headlight, side-view mirror and antenna.

Vermont State Police ask that anyone with information about the vehicle should call 802-524-5993.
