NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - An airman with the New York Air National Guard is being honored for helping save the life of a man who went into cardiac arrest at a hotel.

State military officials say Technical Sgt. Jason Oehlbeck (OLE-bek) performed CPR on the 35-year-old man for 18 minutes, until paramedics arrived, after the man was stricken during a training class in Syracuse.

Oehlbeck is to receive the Air Force Commendation Medal and the New York State Medal for Meritorious Service Sunday during an award ceremony at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.

Oehlbeck is a member of the New York Air National Guard’s 107th Airlift Wing.
