CINCINNATI (AP) - Authorities in Cincinnati say a female participant in an annual run/walk event has died after being struck by a car.

City officials say a vehicle jumped the curb Sunday morning and hit the woman on a sidewalk during the 38th annual Seven Hills Run/Walk. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police are searching for a man who fled on foot after the accident at about 9 a.m. EST. They say a female passenger has been questioned.

No names or other details were released immediately.

The run/walk event challenges participants in a 13.2-mile course over hilly terrain. The Cincinnati Recreation Commission’s web site says it isn’t timed, and the primary goal is finishing the course safely.

Mayor John Cranley says the city extends its condolences after “a terrible tragedy.”
