COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a man has been wounded in an exchange of gunfire with deputies in Richland County.

Sheriff Leon Lott tells local media outlets that deputies responded to a domestic disturbance on Saturday night northeast of Columbia.

He says when deputies arrived at the scene, a woman and two children ran from a house, although a man remained barricaded inside with another woman.

The sheriff says officers tried for 90 minutes to talk the man out of the house.

When deputies finally approached the house, the sheriff says the man came outside with a pistol with a laser site and exchanged gunfire with the deputies. The man was hospitalized with gunshot wounds although his condition was not immediately known.

No deputies were injured in the incident.
