ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) - Tronox Alkali has been awarded the Bureau of Land Management’s Hardrock Mineral Environmental Award for the company’s efforts in sage grouse conservation in Sweetwater County.

The award is given to companies that consistently meet or exceed federal, state or local reclamation requirements.

Tronox won the award for its Sage Grouse Initiative Project, which is a strategy developed by the company to minimize its impact on sage grouse populations.

Tronox environmental engineer Julie Lutz is the project leader of the Sage Grouse Initiative Project.

Lutz tells the Rock Springs Rocket-Miner (https://bit.ly/1SHrFzE ) that as part of the project, the company has worked to minimize disturbances that would impact sage grouse and has worked with other parties to reduce surface activities that could impact sage grouse.
