RUFFIN, N.C. (AP) - State troopers are looking for the driver who hit a fire chief and kept driving.

Trooper Danny Burgess tells media outlets that Ruffin Volunteer Fire Department Chief Gary Brown was helping a driver involved in another crash Saturday night when he was hit by the unknown driver. The crash occurred on Highway 29 in Rockingham County.

Burgess says Brown is in serious but stable condition at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Troopers are looking for a silver four-door sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima or Maxima. The car has a missing driver side mirror and damage to the front-end and driver’s side door.

Firefighters at Brown’s fire department have raised $500 they are offering as a reward for any information leading to an arrest.
