CLINTON, Iowa (AP) - Officials have returned human remains to their resting place near the Clinton County Administration Building in Clinton.

The Clinton Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1lJbpmP ) that the remains were reinterred after a ceremony Friday. Clinton County Supervisor Shawn Hamerlinck says the spot will be marked as a pioneer cemetery and a memorial will be placed.

The burial ground was unearthed in September as work began on a new retaining wall and parking lot. Work was halted until the remains were researched and officials said the work could proceed.
