AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Investigators say a sexually violent predator on the Texas 10 Most Wanted list has been captured in New Mexico.

Fernando Thompson of Austin was caught during a random traffic stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says the 57-year-old Thompson was wanted for felony failure to comply with civil commitment requirements.

Thompson on Nov. 24 removed his electronic ankle monitor and fled from an Austin halfway house. Albuquerque police arrested him Friday.

Thompson has convictions for aggravated sexual assault of a child and sexual assault during the 1980s in Jefferson County.

Thompson in 2005 was put into the civil commitment program. Texas law allows for repeat convicted sex felons, considered likely to reoffend, to be kept under supervision for treatment after their prison terms end.
