NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans police say a 4-year-old boy has sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his neck.

Officials tell the Times-Picayune (https://bit.ly/1jJuFPz ) the incident occurred after the boy found a loaded gun in a drawer of his grandparents’ house Sunday afternoon.

Police say the boy was transferred to the trauma center at University Medical Center in New Orleans. New Orleans police spokesman Officer Garry Flot says the investigation is ongoing and that the department has not yet determined if criminal negligence charges would we lodged against the gun owner or adults in the home.

Police have not disclosed the condition of the child.
