WILLET, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a hunter was shot by another man who was hunting in the same woods in Willet.

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Department says a 24-year-old man was shot by a 53-year-old hunter. They say the two did not know one another and apparently didn’t realize they were hunting in the same area. It happened around 4 p.m. Sunday.

The injured man was taken to a hospital in Syracuse, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. His condition was not immediately known.

The 53-year-old hunter was interviewed by authorities and later released.

The county sheriff’s department and the New York State Environmental Conservation Police are continuing an investigation.
