FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities are hunting for a gunman who shot a man during a botched robbery in central New Jersey.

Somerset County prosecutors say the shooting in Franklin Township was reported around 4 p.m. Sunday.

Responding officers initially could not locate a victim or find any evidence of a shooting. But they soon learned that a 44-year-old Bordentown man had gone to a nearby hospital for treatment of s gunshot wound to the chest.

Authorities say the man was shot after he was involved in a “physical altercation” following an attempted robbery. The gunman then fled the area and remained at large on Monday.

The shooting victim was treated for wounds that are not considered life-threatening. His name has not been released.
