MAGNOLIA, Ark. (AP) - A trial date has been set for a man charged in the fatal shooting of a Southern Arkansas University football player and a former student near Magnolia.

The Magnolia Banner-News reports (https://bit.ly/1XOLawG ) that the trial for 21-year-old Byron Dunn has been tentatively set for Aug. 27 and is expected to last two or three days.

Dunn is charged with capital murder and attempted first-degree murder in the August 2014 slayings of 23-year-old Southern Arkansas wide receiver Brandon Hobdy of Garland, Texas, and 24-year-old student Wayne Payton of McNeil.

Twenty-three-year-old Timothy Johnson of Camden stood trial on charges of first-degree murder in the case in July. The state dropped the charge midway through the trial. Johnson pleaded guilty to terroristic act and was released from jail.
