NEW YORK (AP) - A woman was killed and two pedestrians were injured when a motorist trying to avoid hitting a bus drove his sport utility vehicle onto a Brooklyn sidewalk.

Police say 30-year-old Victoria Nicodemus of Brooklyn was pronounced dead at a hospital around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. A 37-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman are in stable condition.

Police charged the driver, 39-year-old Marion Sewell of Brooklyn, with unlicensed operating of a vehicle and driving without insurance.

Witnesses say Sewell’s Chevy Suburban jumped the curb when he swerved because a bus had slowed down. It happened in the Fort Greene neighborhood.

Police say Sewell was in custody early Monday. He couldn’t be reached for comment.

Nicodemus’ family tells the Daily News she was an art curator who’d been out walking with her boyfriend.
