PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a fast-moving, multialarm fire destroyed a vacant northern New Jersey home and severely damaged two other residences, displacing several people.

No injuries were reported in the blaze, which broke out around 1:10 p.m. Saturday on Redwood Avenue in Paterson. It took firefighters several hours to bring the fire under control, as strong winds fanned the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Authorities say it began in the vacant three-story home and spread to two adjacent homes, which suffered fire, smoke and water damage.

The residents of those two homes were getting assistance from the American Red Cross. It wasn’t clear Sunday how many people had been displaced or when they would be allowed to return to their residences.
