SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois State Police officials are urging travelers to be extremely cautious as they make their way to Super Bowl parties in what could be a heavy winter storm.

They say drifting snow and wet and icy road conditions may disrupt travel Sunday. Drivers should allow extra time as they make their travel plans.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says 350 trucks in six counties in the Chicago area have been clearing and salting roadways overnight. They plan to continue into Monday as the region is pelted with snow and wind. Department officials say only travel if necessary.

Illinois State Police Col. Mike Zerbonia says keeping extra distance between vehicles helps avoid accidents during snow and ice conditions. Slow down and make room for emergency vehicles and snow removal equipment.
