HOUSTON (AP) - Houston-area authorities have identified the man shot by a sheriff’s deputy who saw people in two moving vehicles firing at each other.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday that 31-year-old Victor Reyes was shot early Saturday by a sheriff’s deputy northwest of downtown Houston.

Authorities say Reyes was involved in a gunfight with a car driven by 28-year-old Juan Garcia, who also died in the shooting.

The sheriff’s office says it has no known motive for the incident between Reyes and Garcia.

A spokesman said Saturday that the deputy who shot Reyes opened fire after Reyes got out of the vehicle and refused to drop his weapon.
