ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The New York State Council says it has awarded $36 million in grants to 1,242 nonprofit organizations in the state.

According to the council, the 1,899 grants are in 16 areas, representing a cross-section of artistic disciplines and goals for the funding.

They include support for 60 organizations to present concerts, festivals, and other community programs; 467 grants to music, dance and theater organizations to produce and present public performances; and support for 37 organizations to help expand their operations.

About 1,400 additional grants will be administered by 29 partner organizations across the state.
