NEWARK, Ohio (AP) - The owners of a Rottweiler dog that went missing for seven months have had the dog euthanized because of its poor health.

The Newark Advocate (https://ohne.ws/1zGU6by ) reports Jeanne and Alan Reid made the difficult decision after taking Ruger the Rottweiler to a veterinarian on Friday, the day after they were reunited with him. The veterinarian told the couple an X-ray showed that Ruger’s stomach was full of tumors and that whatever time he had left would be painful.

The Reids told the newspaper they were glad to have had one more day with Ruger. The dog disappeared from their yard in Newark in central Ohio on July 3. He was found Thursday not far from their home.
