HERNDON, Va. (AP) - A northern Virginia resident has found human remains near a nature path, and authorities are now working to determine who the person was and how he or she died.

Fairfax County Police say the Herndon resident spotted bones while walking along the path in Difficult Run Stream Valley Park. Investigators determined that the remains were human and took them to the medical examiner’s office on Monday.

Police say the medical examiner will try to determine the person’s identity, and the cause and time of death.
