NEWTON, N.J. (AP) - A northwestern New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to death by auto in connection with an alcohol-related crash that killed his friend.

Sussex County prosecutors say 24-year-old Matthew Lucenti, of Hardyston Township, entered his plea Monday. He now faces a lengthy prison term when he’s sentenced April 10.

Authorities have said Lucenti was driving drunk in October 2012 when his vehicle crashed on Route 94 in Hardyston. His passenger, 21-year-old Maciej Banach, of Franklin, was ejected from the car after it veered off the road and struck a telephone pole.

Banach was taken to a hospital, but died there a short time later. Lucenti suffered undisclosed injuries in the crash.
