LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Directors of Michigan’s environment and agriculture departments say they will focus on preserving natural resources and supporting economic development in 2015.

Department of Environmental Quality Director Dan Wyant told reporters on a conference call Tuesday that 2014 “was the year of water and we will continue to lead with water.”

He says the DEQ wants to continue protecting water and air, ensure proper waste management and clean up contaminated sites for redevelopment. Wyant says the DEQ will “ensure environmental protection” but also make sure resources are being used appropriately.

Department of Natural Resources Director Keith Creagh and Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Jamie Clover Adams echo that sentiment. DNR will work on enhancing trails to help support tourism. The agriculture department will support businesses supplying locally-grown food.
