VENICE, Fla. (AP) - The search is on for a former Venice councilman who is missing.

Police say David Sherman was last seen Saturday morning when his girlfriend Peggy Perkins left his home to go to work. They say he had plans to pick up some paint at a local store and then mow the lawn. He left a message on his friend’s phone saying he’d gotten the paint.

The Herald-Tribune of Sarasota (https://bit.ly/1z4cAgF ) reports Perkins called Sherman in the afternoon, but he didn’t answer. She called several more times before going to his house about 6 p.m. His wallet, phone and glasses were on the counter and bike and two cars were also at the home.

Police say they don’t know of any financial, medical or domestic reason for his disappearance.
